RIDDOR REPORTING UPDATE 2012

The new reporting requirements for workplace accidents came into force on the 6 April 2012, which effectively extends the period an employee must be off work after an accident before their employer has to notify the HSE or local authority

The amendment to the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) extends the period of accident-related lost time at work triggering a report from three to seven consecutive days.

The deadline for reporting an accident has also increased from 10 to 15 days after the event. (This is not a full report but a summary highlighting the key facts surrounding the accident).

A full investigation report may be required to be submitted to the HSE

There is a free-to-download, web-friendly version of L73 RIDDOR (Fourth edition, published 2012). This version has been adapted for online use from HSE’s current printed version
